Are you having trouble opening the pump for the newest product you bought? Well I have a quick fix for you. Normally you would put your finger on this part of the pump and twist it open, but sometimes they can get really tough to open. Take the pump out of the bottle, rinse off the shaft and dry it. Then you're going to firmly grip the shaft just under the collar of the pump and firmly twist to the right. That will pop the pump open, put the pump back in the bottle and you're ready to use your new product. I hope that helps!

If you can’t grip the shaft well to twist the pump, try wrapping a rubber band around the shaft to get a better hold! Thanks so much for this tip. Finally got my shampoo and conditioner open!

Didn’t work for me & I had my husband attempt it w/his strength & still a no go. Pretty frustrating.

After washing, drying, and having to use pliers to hold the shaft, the top broke off.

Well THAT didn’t work.
St. Ives, you suck!!! Taking this back to the grocery store for one that opens.

Thank you. I had to soak the plunger in hot water before it would pop.

Thank you!

I think this is a terrific helpful idea. But what is wrong with corporate America that charges us so much for a product we can’t open easily? JMO.

Wow! Messy, but it worked. It is annoying to buy the product but not be able to use it. Thank you!

Thank you for saving my sanity!!! FYI for anyone having a tough time holding onto the shaft…I used a silicon pot holder and it held super tight.

Well, that saved me about 10 “Our Father”’s and 10 “Hail Mary”’s! Thank you. I seem to always have trouble with Alba Botanical pumps. Do these companies do any user testing? Thanks again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I can’t tell you how many times a pump bottle became a pour bottle due to a stubborn pump-frustrating!
I tried your method and had instant success with two bottles of newly purchased products. I am sooo grateful that you posted this tip.

Thank you foe posting this great tip. I purchased a bottle of shower gel at L’Occitane at outlets more than an hour away. Tried to open the pump and no matter what I did it would not open. Thought I was out of luck then found your video. I tried it and worked like a charm! This was ao helpful!! 👍😉

Thank you so much! I was so frustrated and tried everything I could think of. I even had my husband try. I first read your explanation, and it worked immediately!! Then I came back and watched your video, just to watch it :) Many, many thanks! I will remember this FOREVER!!

Hi Chris, I’m sorry that the video didn’t work for you. I know how frustrating it is. Your pump was probably so tight you would need pliers. I would love to put all of my pump products in jars, unfortunately, the fingers constantly dipping into the product would contaminate it.
Tova Langhans
This hint did not work for me! Neither did any of the other videos I looked at. I’m really sick of these pump bottles! More than half of the time they don’t work! The manufacturer is going to mail me a mailer to return my lotion. I wish they would just put everything in a jar. That way there would be no waste. You could scrape out every last drop. And a plastic jar would seem cheaper to produce than that pump apparatus!
